Puppy Kindergarten (Star Training)
OVERVIEW
It is never too early to begin training with your puppy. This class is ideal for families with puppies under 6 months old. This 6-week session places emphasis on socialization including play with other puppies, interaction with humans, and handling. Puppies learn skills such as: sit, look, down, come, loose leash walking, stay, and give. Information is provided on issues such as house training, inappropriate mouthing and biting, jumping and more. You'll learn how to prevent unwanted behavior and establish a bond with your puppy using positive reinforcement methods.

Description

- Critical developmental time when puppies temperaments are formed

- Combines socialization AND actual early learning of commands
- Prevent problems before they happen!
- Basics include: sit, down, loose leash walking, coming when called (its best to imprint a solid recall as early as possible to create a pup that ALWAYS comes when called, no matter what!
- Prevent chewing, nipping, jumping up
- Potty/house training
- Handling and safety-issues (your veterinarian and groomer will thank you)
- Puppy psychology, communication and timing
- Supervised free-play for proper socialization (prevent potential frustration/aggression issues later)
- Obstacles for fun and confidence
- Not all Puppy Kindergartens are the same! Trust your pup's education to the experts.
- You’ll attend any puppy class for 6 weeks. Your instructor will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test at the end of the course. Upon passing the test, you’ll get an application to send to AKC® for the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy certificate. All dogs are welcome to participate in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program including purebreds and mixed breeds.
Family Manner 1-Beginners
- Our 6 week session is $200
- Small Class Size, 2-4 dogs per class
- 6 foot leash required (any material/leather, no chain or retractable leashes!)
- All classes require prepaid registration to ensure your enrollment
- Children welcome to attend and encouraged to work with parental supervision at home, but beginner groups are designed for adult learning. Children may not handle dogs in beginner groups and adult must have possession of dog's leash at all times.
- Multiple adult owners encouraged to attend and take turns working the dog
- Each date listed is for the START DATE for each six week class
- This class is for dogs over 6 months old (no upper age limit)
- Please check your schedules carefully, class fees are non-refundable.
- A valid copy of rabies certificate must be provided. Please make a copy and leave it with us the first week of class.
- Some issues are not able to be addressed in a group format. Consider private sessions if you need to deal with specific behavioral issues. . Dogs with aggression are not appropriate for group classes (many dogs are noisy due to frustration when leashed near other dogs, this is usually NOT aggression and is something often handled in groups). Feel free to call if you have questions.
